Across Wales, many older people are living in properties affected by damp, mould and structural disrepair. These conditions pose serious physical risks and can worsen existing health problems.
Our Healthy Homes Appeal aims to raise £10,000 by the end of June 2026. Funds will go into a dedicated hardship fund to pay for critical repairs, including fixing unsafe electrics, repairing leaking roofs, replacing broken windows and locks, addressing dangerous gas appliances, and improving uneven flooring and steps.
How to get involved
We’re inviting businesses and individuals to get involved, by organising local fundraising challenges and initiatives. There are lots of ways to take part, from a simple office bake sale or step challenge to something bigger like a World Cup sweepstake, marathon, zip wire or even a skydive. Our fundraising pack will give you everything you need to get started. It’s a great chance to do something fun, bring people together, and help make a real difference.
Sandra’s story highlights the impact of this support.
When 64-year-old Sandra and her husband were faced with a collapsed lounge floor, they were left living in unsafe conditions with no way to afford repairs. Their insurance would not cover the damage, and they were unable to access other funding.
With support from a Care & Repair Cymru caseworker, essential safety checks were arranged and funding was secured through the Disrepair to Repair Fund. The intervention enabled the couple to remain living safely at home.
The appeal will run until the end of June, with members of the public and businesses encouraged to donate and raise awareness to help reach the £10,000 target.
Care & Repair Cymru provides urgent repairs and home adaptations for people aged 60 and over who have nowhere else to turn. The charity supports those living in privately owned or rented homes who are unable to afford essential work and are not eligible for traditional funding.
