Healthy Homes
Appeal 2026

Too many older people in Wales are living in cold, unsafe homes. Help us change that today.

Help Fix Homes. Change Lives in Wales.

Right now in Wales there are many older and vulnerable people living in cold, damp, and unsafe homes. But with your support we can make homes healthier and give people dignity, stability, and hope.

Many people live in unsafe homes because they simply cannot afford essential repairs. These conditions can put lives at risk, as well as cause mental health challenges and make existing health problems worse.

That’s why our Healthy Homes Appeal is urgently raising funds that will pay for repairs in homes where people have nowhere else to turn. Every penny raised will go into a dedicated hardship fund that will be used to help people who are most in need. Your support will help provide solutions to things such as the following:

  • Dangerous electrics
  • Damp and mould
  • Leaking roofs
  • Broken windows and locks
  • Dangerous gas fires
  • Uneven steps and flooring

We aim to raise £10,000 before the end of June 2026. Every donation will go to improving the homes of vulnerable older people in Wales.

With your support, we can make homes safer, warmer, and healthier — and give people dignity, stability, and hope.

Will you help us reach our £10,000 target before 30 June?

Sandra's Story

When 64-year-old Sandra and her husband faced the daunting reality of a collapsed lounge floor, they were left living in unsafe conditions with nowhere to turn. Their insurance refused to cover the repairs, and other funding options were closed.

Despite ongoing health issues and limited financial support, a Care & Repair caseworker stepped in—arranging essential safety checks and securing funding through the Disrepair to Repair Fund.

This fund, which is now supported by the Healthy Homes Appeal, meant Sandra and her husband could continue living safely at home.

Will you support the appeal and help people like Sandra and her husband?

    Our Research into Dangerous Disrepair

There is a significant funding gap for serious and urgent housing repairs in Wales.

Every day, Care & Repair see older people in the owner-occupied sector who cannot afford to get repair works done and where there are no funding solutions available. This leaves older people living in poor housing with a major detrimental impact on their health, well-being, and ability to live safely and independently at home.

That’s why we are calling for the Welsh Government to implement a Safety-Net Grant delivered by Care & Repair to rectify instances of hazardous disrepair.
