Care & Repair Cymru has been working alongside Tai Pawb Private Rented Sector Champions Network to develop a new video and e-guide designed to give landlords and letting agents across Wales to better support older tenants and those with accessibility needs.

With older people now the fastest growing group in the Private Rented Sector in Wales and the number of older private renters expected to treble by 2040, it’s more important than ever that landlords understand how to meet the needs of this growing tenant base. It’s also true that under the 2010 Equality Act, landlords have a responsibility to provide ‘reasonable adjustments’ in their home for a disabled tenant to make sure they are able to live as safely and independently as possible.

This video and e-guide, co-produced with both landlords and tenants will provide support and information on:

  • How to access financial support such as the process for applying for a Disabled Facilities Grant to help pay toward the cost of larger adaptations.
  • Information on advocacy and informational services to support a tenant and landlord in their journey toward an accessible home.
  • Signposting and contact details of various support organisations working across Wales to promote accessible and safe houses for older and disabled tenants.

We know that disabled tenants face significant barriers in finding suitable and secure homes, and many landlords have told us they struggle to find practical, clear guidance on how to make their properties more accessible and inclusive. This new guide addresses that gap, offering practical steps and insights to help landlords make a real difference.
