Energy bills are still, on average, 50% higher than pre-crisis levels. A little extra help to afford bills will make a huge difference this winter.

As announced by the government, this year those not on Pension Credit or other means-tested benefits will no longer get the Winter Fuel Payment, worth between £100 and £300.

Pension Credit is for pensionable age individuals to help top up income. It is an important entitlement as it gives access to a list of other benefits, including the Winter Fuel Payment.

You have until the 21 December 2024 to make a claim for Pension Credit and to receive the Winter Fuel Payment this Winter. Call the Advicelink Cymru Helpline to get started – lines are open from Monday to Friday between 9am to 5pm.

Am I entitled to Pension Credit?

You could be entitled to receive extra financial support if:

You’ve reached state pension age – 66 years old for men and women
and your weekly income is less than £218.15 (single household) or less than £332.95 (couple household)

You reached state pension age before 6 April 2016
and you saved some money for retirement, for example from a workplace or personal pension.

You might only qualify for a small amount of Pension Credit, but it is still worth checking as it might give you access to further support schemes, such as the Winter Fuel Payment.
